Destination Dezigns Giveaway

Today let me introduce you to "Destination Dezigns"

Jennifer, the designer behind this Etsy shop, creates unique silhouette prints of your family and of any special moments in your life.

Personalized Pregnancy Silhouette {HERE}

The perfect gift for Valentine's Day, Anniversary, Housewarming and much more!

So let's start by getting to know better Jennifer. Here is what she has to share with us:

I was born in Germany to a father in the US military and a German mother. I grew up living through-out Europe and Asia (Italy, Germany, Portugal, Holland, Greece, Japan) and attended college at Emory University, Atlanta, majoring in Anthropology and Japanese. I completed my masters degree in Education in Florida where I met my husband who was in the Air Force as a linguist at the time. He retired and we both both became school teachers in Florida. Me teaching first grade and he special education. He and I both wanted to return overseas where the military had sent us most of our lives prior to our lives in Florida. We were fortunate enough to accept positions working for the Department of Defense working as teachers first in Japan and now in Germany. While in Asia we added the places India, Australia, New Zealand, Macau, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Bali to our traveled list  - so  we clearly love to travel! We currently have a dog and a cat, and I always move with my animals - I never leave them behind. They are a part of our family.

Our final year in Japan, I completed my doctorate in Education just as we finally got pregnant with our daughter. He has since been promoted to Assistant Principal and I am currently teaching high school German and Social Studies. We moved to Germany when I was 7 months pregnant and I feared I'd have the baby in a hotel room, since housing was scare on the economy, due to the large influx of US troops all needing housing. At nearly 9 months we finally found a house. Fortunately, my mother had come to visit and helped us move in so I could focus on our newborn baby girl. She's now 16 months old and I'm enjoying returning to work only on a part-time basis. My mother is an amazing artist and I remember she and I drawing and painting a lot together when I was younger. I've always always enjoyed playing with the computer and now that I'm home part-time, I've found the time to play around with my art on the computer. Fortunately, my 16 month old takes 3 hours naps and sleeps through the night! So I'm lucky to have time for this hobby.

About my Items:
I made the first "Met, Married, Lived, Traveled" print for my parents as a Christmas gift, and my sisters then asked me for one for themselves, since we are all big travelers. Having lived in 17 different locations, I had to get creative with my parents' print to get all the hearts to fit, but that is exactly the reason I was inspired to make it: there should be a way to see all our past homes on one sheet. If our house was still standing when I made the print, I included a satellite view of the actual house we lived in at the time. I then realized perhaps I could create a store for them, as others would probably enjoy them as well. I included pets' (with a paw print) and childrens' names (with a small heart) and anniversary dates, on the heart/home where the pet/child became a member of the family. I don't frame them, but there are websites which will print your photo and frame and mat it for you all at once, as seen in the examples. I had also seen a lot of cute pre/during/post pregnancy photo collages and was a bit disappointed I hadn't been clever enough to put something like that together before/during/after my pregnancy, but realized I could do it with a silhouette, as long as I could scrounge up photos from before I was pregnant, and while I was pregnant, then take one with my daughter for the post photo. I'm willing to take ideas for more silhouette designs as well.

2013 Home Goals

Happy Monday Everyone!
Today I want to share a few DIY projects that are on our Home Goals list for 2013:

1.
On top of our list to thing to do this year is GET RID OF THE CARPET! I hate mine, is disgusting and has to go!
Obviously I don't want carpet anymore. I'm not really a fan of hardwoods floors. Don't get me wrong, I really really like the looks of hardwood floors is just the maintenance part that scares me. Tiles are my fav so here is what we came up with:

Ceramic Tile that looks like hardwood!
Does any of you have it???? Do you like it?????

2.
A DIY kitchen makeover! Last year we were really close to remodel the kitchen but than some unexpected happened and most of the money we have saved for the remodeling went there and the kitchen makeover went back on the list of things to do (or shall I call it my dream wish list??!!)

I think me and the hubs are on the same page now and want out kitchen to be white. No way we are  able now to get cabinets so we are keeping the existing ones and just repaint the whole kitchen, add some new cabinet hardware and maybe maybe also be able to upgrade the countertops this year. Fingers crossed!

Here is what my kitchen looks like now:

Here are some kitchen I have pinned that I really like:

One option that we have now is using this kit by Rust-Oleum

Any thoughts or suggestions about this kit??

I also have some more small projects on my mind (painting furniture, upholstering kitchen stools and  finish decorating the kids bathroom) but so far these are the biggest one for this year.

Look who's back!

Well hello there :) Happy New Year!

I don't even know where to start from!

It's the first time I have been so MIA on the blog...a whole month.
Way too much going. The in-laws who stayed with us for 2 months, the Holidays, more relatives staying with us... and of course a big blogger block made it all worst.

Looking back I probably needed this month off and hopefully I will start the year fresh and full of inspiration :)

As I mentioned before, my in-laws stayed with us for TWO months. They arrived in November and left last week (yes, that's a lot!). As much as I care for them and the big help my FIL gave me with the kiddos, two months are a loooong time.

Than 2 weeks ago my husband's cousins arrived with all their families and they are going to stay until the end of the month. My kids are super excited because now they have a bunch of cousins to play with!

My house is a total disaster! My walls are full of black spots, hand prints and so on and my carpet is disgusting. No more a creme color but a grey one! As much as I clean and organize, the house still looks a mess with all those dark spots.
Put tiles downstairs has been on our list of projects since last year and we really hope this year we will be able to make it happen.

Tomorrow I wil share some goals I have for our home this year.

I hope you will still stick with me and come check my blog sometimes (please please please)/ I know I have been MIA lately but hopefully I will start posting more often.

Christmas Tree 2012

New location (not in the family room no more) and with a little less ornaments (less crowded now!).

My father in law (who arrived a month ago to spend the Holidays with us) saw this on TV and ordered one for our tree! The star lights up and Santa and the reindeers turn around it!

There are my new ornament for 2012, I always get one if we go to somewhere special. We got the nativity inside the owl this summer in Old Town San Diego.

P.S: The train underneath is NEVER in its place!!!
